This page retrieves lightning strike data from a database and plots the strike locations on a Google Map (thanks to Google Maps for doing most of the work for me). Until i can find a better way of doing this, the strikes are plotted as a dash starting at the strike location and heading North (hence the strike location is marked by the bottom of the dash). Note that although the map allows zooming, there is little point in zooming in more than the initial map due to the large margin of error in the data (note that this is not deliberate but rather a consequence of the limitations of the equipment used). If anyone living around, say 400km, from Queanbeyan (might aswell say Canberra when talking about those kinds of distances) Australia, with a Boltek LD-250 lightning detector is interested in trying to combine the data from their's and mine in order to try and more acurately locate the strikes, please email me. The original version is still available if you'd rather use that. |
